The medicinal properties of Turmeric has captured the attention of the West in recent times. But it is well known in Ayurveda medicine in India and its neighboring area. Turmeric health benefits are many and can be used by common man very easily.

Initially turmeric was taken as a cleansing agent and till today in India during marriages it is plastered casually around the grooms and brides forehead to keep evil at bay and to purify them of all sins. Also it is one of the main ingredients of Indian cuisine. Yellowish in color, it adds flavor and color to the dish.

Turmeric health benefits actually results from an ingredient which is present in the turmeric called curcurum. For this substance it gets its yellow color, medicinal properties, and pungent smell.

Curcumin gives it its antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory nature. This substance reduces the histamine levels and also increases the adrenalin flow. Turmeric (curcumin) also harbors rich stores of antioxidants. Antioxidants keeps ageing at bay.Even certain toxins are said to be reduced or flushed by the effect of turmeric. Turmeric is the magical herb when it comes to liver problems. Also experiments show that turmeric might be a huge success for anti cancer medicines.

Turmeric and Side Effects:

Turmeric when used over a period of time and in profusion can lead to stomach problems. An adult can take about 400-600 curcumin in a day. Anything more might lead to trouble.
People with acute heart problem should avoid turmeric. Also women who are pregnant, people who have blood clotting problem, should ask their physician before taking turmeric.
